Cherry Dining Room Table (Woodworking)

This is my latest project in the works. My wife and I are making a Woodworking cherry dining room table for my son. I cut the tree down 2 years ago and we started building the Woodworking table awhile ago. The base is made of MDF and covered with flat sawn cherry veneer. The stinger is made from solid cherry and hand shaped into and oval profile. I used a mortise and tenon joint to attached the stringer to the base. The last two images show the cherry slab being glued-up. I finished the slab today. I ordered a 1-3/4" end cutter (router bit) from Amana Tools and when it arrives I will make a router sled to flatted the top. I am trying to figure out the best way for the assembly of slab to the base. Currently I am thinking I will drill the base top at each end and insert a 1" or 3/4" dowel and then drill the corresponding holes in the underside of the slab and just let it sit over the dowels... any thoughts?
